No matter what you do for a living, your office decor is important.  You are there for 40 hours a week (or more!).   No one should have to stare at plain white walls for that long.  With your décor, you can also project a certain image to your clients or create a productive environment for your employees.  Here are some easy steps to get the stylish office you deserve.

1.  Start with a color scheme.

Color and lighting can have a direct affect on how you feel, your mental state and your productivity.  When choosing paint colors and décor, begin by imagining how you want your office to feel when you enter it.  You also may want to consider what you do for a living when choosing a color scheme.  If you are a lawyer, you may want to go with more traditional or neutral tones, but if you are a graphic designer you could choose colors that are vibrant and artsy.

2.  Choose accessories that compliment your office furniture.

You want to make sure that all the items are the right scale, and that YOU love them, that is key!   It really isn’t too hard, once you have chosen the right combination.  Keep things simple and neat without cluttering.  Use items with varying textures and heights and don’t be hesitant to use mirrors. Mirrors make a room look larger, add light and can change the feel of an entire room.

     

3.  Don’t be afraid to mix things up.

Everything doesn’t have to be matchy-matchy.  Ideally, you want a room to “coordinate” but not “match.” Rooms that coordinate have varied textures, prints, materials, and tones that work together and appear balanced and cohesive.  It is ok to mix fabrics and prints.  You can combine solids, florals, geometrics and stripes as longs as they have coordinating colors.  Find eclectic pieces to finish off the look.
